Paul Metcalfe

Senior Partner

Paul Metcalfe is our Senior Partner and has enjoyed many years in law.

He started work in 1965 for a large Sheffield Firm as a “Tea Boy”. He gradually worked his way through the ranks to gain his present position.

In 1970 he joined the firm of David Eyres which later became David Eyres with Ellis Green following the merger of two local firms of Solicitors. He was articled to the late David Eyre.

Paul qualified as a Solicitor in 1980 after completing his education at the College of Law in Chester. He became a Partner in 1982. In 2007 he became Senior and Managing Partner in the present firm of Metcalfe David Eyres.

Initially, at the start of his career, he provided advice and help to those injured in road accidents and at work, later engaging in civil work to include County Court and High Court proceedings and Landlord and Tenant disputes.

Christopher Dorries, the firm’s criminal advocate, was made Coroner of Sheffield in November 1991 when Paul took on his role and went on to specialise in criminal law. He soon became a member of the Court Duty Solicitor Schemes and Accredited Police Station Representative.

Paul developed a high level of expertise in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts and the Court of Appeal. His cases included murder, rape and high level fraud.

In a liquor licensing case, when representing a local shop keeper the matter was heard in the Court of Appeal and later mentioned in the House of Lords.

A murder case R v Hirst and Others, following a murder in Parson Cross, saw him secure an acquittal for his client. Paul dealt with several cases of murder to include defending a local man who murdered his neighbour following an argument in a public house.

He acted as Agent for the Treasury Solicitor in a major public enquiry.

He is well-known and respected by the taxi drivers of Sheffield and South Yorkshire after representing their interests and disputes with local Licensing Committees and in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts.

For a short time Paul was engaged as a Lecturer in Law for The Institute of Legal Executives.
Paul has a friendly approach and likes to put clients at ease at difficult times. He also specialises in Family Law dealing with the sometimes unhappy circumstances following the breakup of marriage or partnership with a kind and sympathetic approach. His cases have included high financial settlements in the Family Courts.

Paul can also advise on property transactions, Wills and Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

In 2011 he expanded his Practice by opening a second office in Chesterfield to offer a similar service to those in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

He is a family man. In his spare time he supports his local football team and loves time in his garden.
